Dr.  Sarkar joined the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at SDSU in the Fall of 2006 as a tenure track Assistant Professor. Prior to joining SDSU, she served as a Research Scientist at SPAWAR Systems Center, Point Loma shortly after finishing her Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from UC, San Diego in 2005.

Her research interest lies in the area of wireless data networks. Her work addresses issues like scheduling, routing, optimal resource allocation, MAC layer power management and Quality-of-Service issues in WLANs, WMANs, sensor networks and wireless ad hoc networks.

Dr. Sarkar has been instrumental in setting up the Wireless  Multimedia Communication and networks Laboratory in her department.  The lab is equipped with various state-of-the art wireless network  gadgets like sensors,  zigbee network test bed and a WLAN setup. The lab has been funded by the NSF grant (CNS-0723263)
